Solar PV Panels

Solar PV Panels from
SolarMode

Generate renewable electricity for your home using solar photovoltaic panels installed by SolarMode.

  • Certain semiconductor materials generate electricity when exposed to visible light. These are called Photovoltaic (PV) materials.

Solar PV technologies use a wide variety of semiconductor materials. Most technologies to date use silicon as the photovoltaic material. However, technologies are adapting all the time and other more advanced semiconductor materials are entering the market.

  • 1 sqm of silicon solar panels will generate around 150W of power on a clear sunny day.

A typical home solar PV system sized at 20 sqm can generate around 2,600kWh of electricity a year. That is almost 50% of the annual electricity demand of an average Irish home.

Solar PV systems will still function on overcast days in Ireland, although not at their maximum rated capacity. Luckily, we’re located in the Sunny South East!

  • Our team will conduct a site survey to ensure your home is suitable for solar PV panels, but if your roof is your roof is structurally sound and capable of the taking the weight of the PV panels, you’re most likely good to go!

Southern-facing roofs with little to no shade and enough space to fit a solar panel system are ideal for installing solar. An East-West facing roof is also ideal.

The benefits of going solar

It is a clean and renewable energy source

Electricity produced by solar energy is clean and renewable, and is available in abundance here in the South East of Ireland. Because they are powered by sunshine, PV systems are environmentally friendly and do not release harmful air or water pollution into the environment, nor do they deplete natural resources.

Unlike fossil fuels, solar energy is renewable, meaning that when we use it to produce electricity we do not deplete nor alter the resource. No matter how much solar energy we use, the sun will always produce more!

It can drastically reduce your energy bills

Using solar energy reduces your energy bills. The electricity generated by solar PV systems is completely free for you to use. A typical PV system can produce around 50% of the electricity a household uses in a year.

Excess electricity generated by your PV panels can earn you money.

Your electricity provider will pay you for any electricity you export from your PV system to the national grid. A new solution offered in 2022, this is availed of through a feed-in tariff from your energy provider.

You can also use any excess electricity generated from your solar PV panels to generate hot water by using diverters.

It is a tried and tested technology with minimal maintenance.

Solar PV is a tried and tested technology with a long system life. Solar PV panels also require very little maintenance because they have no moving parts.

Using solar energy reduces our dependence on imported oil.

The sun delivers more energy to earth in an hour than is used worldwide in a year. We can harness this energy by using solar technologies and in time, become entirely self-sufficient through solar power. This reduces our reliance on imported oil and safeguards us from energy price volatility.

SEAI Solar Electricity grants are available up to €2,400.
