Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I go solar?

1. How do solar photovoltaic (PV) panels work?

Solar panels absorb the sun's energy throughout the day and convert it into direct current (DC) electricity. As our homes and businesses run on alternating current (AC) electricity, this DC electricity is then passed through an inverter to convert it to usable AC electricity. At that point, you either use the electricity in your house or send it back to the electric grid.

2. So how do my solar panels work when the sun isn’t shining?

The amount of power your solar energy system provides is dependent on sunlight. As a result, your solar panels will produce slightly less energy when the weather is cloudy, and no energy at night. Despite this, going solar is still a wise decision because of high electricity costs and the availability of the SEAI grant.

3. Does that mean that I won’t receive an electricity bill if I have solar panels?

Unfortunately no, unless your solar energy system includes battery storage and you are fully off the grid, you will still receive a bill from your provider for standing charges. However, you can eliminate or dramatically reduce the amount your are billed in relation to the electricity you use if you have a solar panel system that matches your energy use.

4. Can a PV solar system save me money?

Yes! When you install a solar energy system, you save on your electricity bills and protect yourself against rising electricity rates in the future. How much you can save depends on your electricity rates from your provider. But either way, solar is a smart investment, both financially and environmentally.

5. Is solar energy good for the environment?

Solar energy, like other renewable energy resources, has many environmental and health benefits. Going solar reduces greenhouse gas emissions, which contribute to climate change.

6. Does solar effect my property values?

Studies have shown that homes with solar energy systems sell for more than homes without them.

7. Is my roof suitable for solar panels?

Prior to installation we will determine if your roof is structurally sound and capable of the loading. Southern-facing roofs with little to no shade and enough space to fit a solar panel system are ideal for installing solar. An East-West facing roof is also ideal.

8. What size solar energy installation should I go for?

The size of your solar energy system will depend on how much electricity you use on a regular basis. We will guide you through the decision making process and will look at your past electricity bills to determine the best system size for your needs.
